“I will bring you back to your own land. I will give you a new heart and place a new spirit within you… You shall be my people, and I will be your God.” These words of the prophet Ezekiel are the promise that God doesn’t give up. Even though the people of God continue to mess up God finds a way to “bring them back” into a genuine loving relationship. In these days when the frailty and fallibility of priests is shoved in our face we must remember the promise of God. God will find a way to bring us back. Pray that God replaces the hearts that do not reflect God’s compassion and mercy with ones that more closely imitate the Good Shepherd.
