“Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt, and stay there until I tell you.” The Holy Family became immigrants to a foreign land because of a hostile government lead by King Herod that threatened their welfare. Sounds alot like the first pilgrims to what is now the United States who came to the new world to ensure a better life for their children. Sounds alot like my grandparents who left Poland as World War I was on the horizon to make ensure their safety from the growing conflict. Sounds alot like the Venezuelans who have come to Chicago because they were not able to provide even the basics of food and shelter in their homeland because of government policy. Now the news in the United States if filled with threats against immigrants who look alot like the Holy Family. Have we become the Herods who are hostile to those who are just looking for a better life?
