In the Book of Sirach there is a beautiful description of friendship. “A faithful friend is a sturdy shelter; he who finds one finds a treasure. A faithful friend is beyond price.” In the Gospels Jesus must deal with issues of marriage and divorce. Both of these readings remind us how important relationships are to human beings. But relationships are not simply meant for our personal life — they are in fact images of God. Since God is Trinity the very definition of God is relationship — unique persons always bound together in a unity of love. So with us — our relationships reflect the very life of God when we respect the uniqueness of each individual while at the same time striving to be one in love.
