According to the Letter to the Hebrews Jesus is able “to sympathize with our weaknesses” since he
“has similarly been tested in every way.” When I think of the ways I have been tested the last presidential election comes to mind. It filled me with fear and with a sense of hopelessness. But most of all election caused me to despair of the basic goodness of the American people. Jesus must have been similarly tested when he encountered the fickleness of the crowds — cheering him one day and jeering him the next. What got Him through, what will get me through, is trust God’s will. “So let us confidently approach the throne of grace to receive mercy and to find grace for timely help.”
