The story of St. Paul’s conversion was a major turning point in the history of Christianity — so important that the Acts of the Apostles tells the story three times and St. Paul himself reports on the incident directly in his letter to the Galatians. While the stories diverge in some details the one constant is the total identification that Jesus has with his suffering disciples. “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting.” The challenge for us is to return the love and devotion Jesus has toward us. I have not yet reached the point of St. Paul when he said, “It is now no longer I that live but Christ lives in me.” There is still a lot of me — but I’m working on it.
