No one is quite sure who the prophet Micah was. Like many of the prophets he chastised Israel for its abandonment of God’s ways while at the same time offering consolation that God would redeem them once they reformed. Also, like many of the prophets, he warned the Chosen People not to rely on ritual to get in right relationship with God. It was a changed heart, not animal sacrifice, that God was looking for. “You have been told, O man, what is good, and what the LORD requires of you: Only to do the right and to love goodness, and to walk humbly with your God.” Justice, love and humility are virtues that believers in our time should adopt in our life of faith.
