St. Paul says, “stir into flame the gift of God that you have.” I like the idea of stirring into flame, of rekindling first love, of growing in ardor. But what struck me was that in order to heed the Apostle’s voice we need to know what our gift from God is. We all have our particular “gift of God.” Too often, however, we get caught up in the business of living and don’t discover how we have been gifted. One method of discerning our gift — look at what enthuses you, what gives you joy, what gets you out of bed in the morning. Somewhere in there is the gift of God. Stir that into flame and discover God’s gift.
