St. Peter says to the begger, “I have neither silver nor gold; but what I have I give you.” We can only give what we have. The story of the disciples encounter with Jesus on the road to Emmaus reminds us that the most important thing we have is our burning hearts. “Were not our hearts burning within us as He spoke to us on the way!” What is burning in your heart today: the reality that God loves you, the sense of yourself as a beloved child of God, an awareness of yourself as forgiven, a realization that you are accepted by God just as you are? Give what you have and the good news of Jesus will enlighten the whole world.
