“For everyone who asks, receives; and the one who seeks, finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Jesus states positively that God always hears us when we call. But remember Gethsemane. Jesus asked “that this cup be taken from me.” The Letter to the Hebrews states in commenting on this scene: “He was heard because of his reverence.” He was heard. God heard the prayer of Jesus. Yet, the cup was NOT taken from him. He had to endure the cross. That should remind us that God hearing our prayers does not mean we get what we want. We trust that God hears us and gives us what is best, even if it is not what we are asking for.
