St. Paul was able to ply his tent-making trade at Corinth because of the Isthmian Games. In non-Olympic years there would be a great need for tents for the participants and the spectators who attended the games. Corinth proved to be exactly the right place for Paul to live out his vision of Christianity. It was a melting pot city with Jews and Greeks, slaves and free, men and women all going about the business of operating a great port. Here the rich diversity of the body of Christ took concrete shape. In the providence of God Paul’s job got him exactly where God needed him to be to live out his vocation. The same is true with us — whatever place we land, whatever job we take, wherever we hang our hat, we can play our part in bringing the kingdom of God in all our encounters.
