Don’t you love this saying from St. Paul: May the eyes of your hearts be enlightened. The “eyes of the your hearts” gives us the image of seeing beyond the surface, the obvious, and instead seeing what love reveals. There is a similar thought in The Little Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery.“And now here is my secret, a very simple secret: It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye.” With the eyes of the heart you see that every child is special and worthy of every opportunity to grow in wisdom, age and grace. With the eyes of the heart you see that the ordinary distinctions we make between race, nationality, language, culture, sex pale to insignificance compared with the common identity we have as children of God. With the eyes of the heart we see that forgiving those who hurt me provides the platform for healing and wholeness.
