No one knows exactly what to do with the Book of Baruch. It is not in the Hebrew Bible and St. Jerome did not include it in his Latin version (Vulgate) of the Bible. Baruch was known as the secretary of the great prophet Jeremiah. It is due to the efforts of Baruch that we have the message of Jeremiah preserved. He collected, organized, arranged and published the words and deeds of the Prophet. The book with Baruch’s name attached is included in some traditions as part of Jeremiah. Maybe the lesson we should draw is how important it is that there are secretaries, janitors, sacristans, managers. The ordinary people, like Baruch, make possible some of the great things that happen in the world.
