Jesus decided to give some of his followers “on the job” training. He sent seventy-two out “two by two” to proclaim good news. When they returned they told Jesus what an awesome experience it was. He warned them not to focus on what they were doing but what God could do with the likes of them. “Do not rejoice because the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice because your names are written in heaven.” Then Jesus was filled with the Holy Spirit and said, “I give you praise, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, for although you have hidden these things from the wise and the learned you have revealed them to the childlike.” We too need get over ourselves and rely on God.
