I draw a strange sort of consolation when the bible reports of the difficulties in the early Church. St. Paul wrote to the Corinthians: “It is widely reported that there is immorality among you, and immorality of a kind not found even among pagans.” The Church in the US is trying to wrap its head around the immorality of the clergy sex abuse scandal. Sadly, right from the beginning we have not lived up to the ideals Jesus left us. My prayer is that God will give us the grace and fortitude that we need in order to heal this great wound to the Body of Christ. One of my favorite authors, Ursala K. LeGuin wrote: “A wrong that cannot be repaired must be transcended.”
