A folk song, “Turn, Turn, Turn,” popularized the theme from the book of Ecclesiastes that “there is a time for every purpose under heaven.” People instinctively relate to that. We understand that there is a time to be born and a time to die, a time to mourn and a time to dance. The challenge in the spiritual life is knowing which time it is. For example, a painful moment in life comes in telling a beloved elder that “the time to drive” is over for them. It is often difficult for them to see what is obvious to everyone else — that they are a danger to themselves and others. In our prayer we should ask the Lord what time it is in my life.
