The prophet Zechariah ministered to the people at the time of the return from exile. He encouraged the people to have confidence in the future God had in store for them. The prophet picked up a theme that Ezekiel had expressed — namely, that God was mobile. “I will return to Zion, and I will dwell within Jerusalem.” God had accompanied the people into exile and would continue to be with them in the return from exile. The divine presence was not limited to the temple but was to be found among the people. That lesson has been experienced at St. James since we lost our “temple” six years ago. Sacred spaces find their importance because of the sacred people who gather there in prayer.
